October 13, 2018 - CASA de Maryland in Langley Park, MD

On October 13, 2018, at CASA de Maryland, Jorge A Campos (Accountant), Jan Singelmann (Attorney), Ignacio Nacho Sandoval (Attorney) and Juan Sempertegui (Attorney) spent a few hours with two middle school students (both of whom were born in the US to immigrant parents.)  The program started with a team exercise (building a tower with spaghetti noodles, marshmallow and tape), followed by a discussion about the growth mindset and grit necessary for success and talked about the benefits of a college education.  Along the way, mentors also talked about solutions to challenges that the mentors encountered as young men (i.e. gangs, unsupportive teachers, parents without a college education, etc.).  The program ended with the students learning how to lace up a suit tie (which they kept) for a job interview.

December 1, 2018 - CASA de Maryland in Langley Park, MD

Our second leadership workshop took place on December 1, 2018 at CASA de Maryland’s Pine Ridge Community Center.  Due to various reasons, the program included young women and we were fortunate enough to have mentor Gidget Benitez attend the workshop with less than 24-hour’s notice to inspire the young women mentees.  A total of 9 students went through the team building exercise, learned about Grit and Mindset and had numerous discussions with six (6) mentors.  Our roster of amazing mentors included HNBA member Gidget Benitez (Attorney), Jorge A Campos (Accountant), Jan Singelmann (Attorney), Ignacio Nacho Sandoval (Attorney), Juan Sempertegui (Attorney) and Brian Olds (Motivational Speaker).
